Update on the 'Child's Play' Remake
19 August 2008 11:46 PM, PDT
This reminds me of the battle that went on to get the remake of Friday The 13th on the big screen. After AICN posted their incredible interview with Child's Play creator Don Mancini and producer David Kirschner, we got in touch with Mancini who gave us an update of the actual status of the remake, which will also see the return of Brad Dourif. What will it take for Charles Lee Ray to return as Chucky in theaters? Read on and find out. "We've had several meetings," Don Mancini tells Bloody-Disgusting, "I pitched my new take to the studio and got their notes. They definitely want to make the movie. But they're busy with the deal-making process at the moment, which is complicated by the fact that the remake rights are owned jointly by Universal and MGM (where we made the original film). "

Selick's 'Coraline' Proves to Be Scary And Spooky!
19 August 2008 10:23 PM, PDT
A film that I had been tinkering with covering here on Bloody-Disgusting is Henry Selick's (The Nightmare Before Christmas) latest stop-motion animated movie, Coraline, which is based on a series by Neil Gaiman. With every story we miss, I get more and more e-mails asking me why I refuse to cover it. Until today I thought I was just going to pass on it, but after watching Rotten Tomatoes' fifth exclusive behind-the-scenes video it seems apparent I should be all over this film. In the video found inside, Selick explains that Coraline is "Scary and spooky and filled with creepy-crawler things..." The imagery also screams horror, even though Dakota Fanning (yuck) provides her voice. Read on for a link to five behind-the-scenes videos and watch for more Coraline soon.

Writer Putting the Breaks on Uni's 'Death Race'?
19 August 2008 10:11 PM, PDT
It looks as if Universal Pictures remake of Death Race could be crashing before it even hits the wall. Writer Adam Stone is in a race to stop the release of Universal's film, which is slated to hit theaters everywhere this Friday. The reason? Plagiarism. Read on for the story and watch for news as it develops. Stone claims in a copyright infringement lawsuit filed Tuesday in Los Angeles federal court that the upcoming Universal thriller is based on a script he pitched to the film's producer-director Paul W.S. Anderson and producer Jeremy Bolt. He seeks a court order stopping the film's release. Stone claims that after the producers passed, Bolt made and kept a copy of his screenplay, titled "Joust," to use as a "blueprint" for Anderson's revision of the script for "Death Race." More inside.

Writers Tapped to Pen 'Poltergeist' Remake
19 August 2008 12:48 PM, PDT
Finally, finally we have bragging rights. Can we now say "I told you so?" It was officially announced today that MGM is moving forward on their remake of Tobe Hooper and Steven Spielberg's classic '82 horror film, Poltergeist, which we broke the news on back in November of 2006. Inside you can find out who is writing the remake and then cringe a little with me. Juliet Snowden and Stiles White are going into the light. The "Boogeyman" scribes are rolling out more children's nightmares for MGM's planned remake of "Poltergeist," the 1982 horror film that made "they're here ..." the creepiest announcement ever voiced by a 6-year-old kneeling in front of a static-filled television. The story of a suburban home built over an Indian burial ground and thus inhabited by a nasty spook earned further cult status when two of the child actors in the movie died after the film's release.
